Loss of Commissioner Warren Abriel
On behalf of the Albany Port District Commission and the staff and tenants of the Port of Albany, we mourn the loss of friend and Commissioner Warren Abriel. Warren was appointed to the Board of Commissioners in 2021 by the Governor upon the recommendation of Mayor Kathy Sheehan. Warren was an active Board member, always involved in Port industry events and tenant occasions, sharing a warm smile and updates on recent Disney trips with his family.

Port of Albany releases RFEI for Beacon Island Expansion Project
(April 4, 2025) The Port of Albany has issued a Request For Expressions of Interest (RFEI) to assess market interest and commercial potential for the Port of Albany’s Beacon Island expansion site at 340 River Road, Glenmont, NY.

Port of Albany awarded $18.8M from FAST NY Shovel-Ready program
(March 6, 2025) Governor Kathy Hochul announced that the Albany Port District Commission (APDC) was recently awarded a $18.79 million grant from Empire State Development’s Focused Attraction of Shovel-ready Tracts New York (FAST NY) program for utility infrastructure work at the expansion project (Beacon Island), including installation of a high-voltage substation, a sanitary wastewater treatment plant, and the intake lines and pump station package for the fire protection system.
Port of Albany-Rensselaer (NY) 2024 Highlights
(December 19, 2024) In its recently released 2024 U.S. Port and Maritime Industry Economic Contribution Report reflecting insights and analysis in collaboration with Congressional economists from EY, the American Association of Port Authority findings show that the maritime industry, its consumer spending, suppliers, and port users support 21.8 million American jobs, meaning that the port and maritime industry supports more than one out of eight jobs in the total United States workforce and contributes nearly $2.59 trillion to the national GDP.
Port of Albany CEO Hendrick unanimously elected as Vice Chairman of National Ports Association Board, American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA)
(November 19, 2024) Port of Albany-Rensselaer CEO Richard J. Hendrick was unanimously elected Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) at its Annual Convention in Boston. AAPA is the trade association for 140 seaports in the western hemisphere.
Albany Maritime Ministry to Mark the Holiday Season with Christmas at Sea Collection, Advent Open House, and Beer & Carols
(November 7, 2024) The Albany Maritime Ministry (AMM)’s Christmas at Sea hospitality program has begun. Small, gift-wrapped boxes (shoebox or small plastic bin with lid) can be donated for distribution to seafarers who are on vessels at Capital District ports and away from their families during the holidays.
Port of Albany to conduct annual Security Drill
(October 4, 2024) The Albany Port District Commission and state/local first responders will be conducting its annual U.S. Coast Guard mandated, multi-agency, full-scale drill.
Operation Coms Incident is being held at Port of Albany offices and will be a tabletop exercise only. No assets will be deployed during this four-hour exercise, designed to test the communication capabilities between multiple emergency response agencies.

(September 19, 2024) Port Industry Day is an opportunity for attendees to learn more about what is happening in the global maritime industry, to meet Port tenants and partners, to see displays and demonstrations, and to get an up-close look at Port operations.

Port of Albany Leadership receives Honors
(July 23, 2024) Port of Albany CEO Richard Hendrick was recently named as one of City & State NY’s Transportation Power 100 list and Chief Commerce Officer Megan Daly was honored as one of the Albany Business Review’s Power 50 for 2024, highlighting “influential women in positions of power across many industries.”
Port of Albany CEO attends National Zero-Emission Freight Corridor Strategy Roundtable in Washington, D.C.
(June 4, 2024) In late April, Richard Hendrick, Port of Albany CEO, was invited by the White House to attend the National Zero-Emission Freight Corridor Strategy Roundtable hosted by the White House Climate Policy Office, the Department of Energy, Department of Transportation, Environmental Protection Agency and the Joint Office of Transportation and Energy.

Port of Albany welcomes Captain of the Port, CAPT Jon Andrechik
(May 28, 2024) Albany Port District Commissioners, staff, and tenants will be meeting informally with the newly promoted U.S. Coast Guard Sector New York Commander and Captain of the Port, Captain Jonathan Andrechik.
This is the first time that the Port has hosted a visit from the Captain of the Port in CEO Rich Hendrick’s tenure/memory.
Port of Albany partners to present Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) and Supply Chain Symposium
(May 15, 2024) The Port of Albany, Capital Region Foreign Trade Zone #121, Capital District Regional Planning Commission, and CEG have partnered to present “Managing Risk and Cost in the Global Supply Chain: How Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ) can help” on Monday, May 20 at 1 pm (doors open for lunch and networking at 12:30pm) in the Port of Albany’s Maritime Terminal.
