Port Operations & Facilities

The Port of Albany is a U.S. Port of Entry and includes: 

  • Nearly 450 acres of land on both sides of the Hudson River
  • Almost 4,200 feet of wharf on the Albany (west) side, 1,200 feet of wharf on the Rensselaer (east) side of the Hudson River, and in Bethlehem, 500 feet in design
  • A freshwater draft of 30 feet
  • 350,000 square feet of covered storage space
  • A 20-acre paved marine terminal for open storage
  • 20-mile standard gauge switching railroad jointly owned by CSX and CP Railway operating as the Albany Port Railroad which also handles on-dock heavy rail operations

Maritime Operations includes two mobile harbor cranes and more than 40 pieces of heavy lift cargo handling equipment with an on-site maintenance and operations team. The maritime terminal is a fully secured terminal with on-site award-winning security force. 

Stevedore/Terminal Operator (LOGISTEC)

The Port of Albany partners with LOGISTEC Terminal in a network of 90 terminals in 70 ports across North America. Based in Montréal (QC) and providing specialized services in the area of bulk, break-bulk and container cargo handling, LOGISTEC offers marine transportation services along the entire Eastern seaboard, the Gulf, Great Lakes, and Canada

U.S. Customs and Border Protection

Pilotage

As the sole agency licensed by New York State to service ports and terminals along the Hudson River, the Hudson River Pilots Association provides 24-hour a day, 365-days a year service to the Port of Albany-Rensselaer ensuring that vessels arrive in Port for ordered labor starts and ready to sail once cargo operations are complete. 

The Hudson River Pilots can handle any type of vessel up to a maximum length of 750 feet (250 meters) with a maximum recommended beam of 110 feet (33.5 meters).

On-site Maintenance, Operations & Equipment

The Port of Albany has an on-site fully equipped maintenance and repair facility. The Maintenance and Operations team provides maintenance and oversight of the Port's 21 tenant buildings, eight marine warehouses, and more than 350,000 square feet of covered storage facilities. Maintenance provides potable water for ships and services all maritime equipment and property needs, including street and terminal ground maintenance, repair, and snow plowing.
