The primary stevedoring operation at the Port of Albany/Rensselaer is run by Federal Marine Terminals, Inc. (FMT), a subsidiary of Montreal-based Fednav Limited, making the Port of Albany part of the FMT group of terminal and port operations that include:

FMT provides Port of Albany/Rensselaer customers with high quality, cost-effective stevedoring and terminal operations. FMT’s quality workforce has extensive experience in the handling of heavy lift and project cargo. The Port's Liebherr mobile harbour cranes provide lifting capacity up to 390,000 lbs, 270,000 sq ft of inside storage, 15 acres of outside storage, and heavy lift capacity of looped on-dock rail make the Port of Albany/Rensselaer perfect for the shipment of a variety of products including heavy lift and project cargo, forest products, steel, bagged cargoes, other break bulk cargo and containers customers ship.


The workforce at the Port of Albany/Rensselaer are members of the International Longshoremen's Association. The Port's and FMT’s safety-oriented staff are experienced, dedicated, and reliable. The contract between FMT and the ILA offers shippers very flexible starting and working times as well as very competitive rates.
